About This Place

Nestled in a convenient strip center just 20 minutes from downtown Indianapolis, Oakleys Bistro is a gem that masterfully blends American heartiness with French culinary finesse. This inviting bistro offers an extensive menu that’s thoughtfully crafted to highlight seasonal ingredients and bold flavor combinations, making each visit an exciting culinary journey.

The dining atmosphere at Oakleys Bistro strikes a balance between cozy and spacious. Though the interior carries a slightly dated charm, it exudes a warmth that welcomes diners to relax and savor every course. Many guests have remarked how the intimate seating adds a layer of comfort reminiscent of charming Quebec City eateries, while the large dining area comfortably accommodates both small get-togethers and larger celebrations.

The menu itself is a remarkable showcase of chef-driven creativity and culinary expertise. Standout dishes like the Shrimp Corndog—a Beat Bobby Flay winner—deliver an inventive twist on classic favorites, combining crispy, golden exteriors with juicy, seasoned shrimp that will delight your palate. Seafood enthusiasts will find joy in the delicate Salmon Medallions and the rich, flavorful Lobster Cheddar Grits enhanced by a tangy pineapple scallion vinaigrette and hoisin lime glaze.

For those who appreciate bold, layered flavors, the Brisket Dumplings and the Pork Belly Skewers offer hearty, melt-in-your-mouth experiences. The culinary craftsmanship shines in creations like the Wild Mushroom Paella and the comforting yet sophisticated Winter Squash Paella, which balance earthiness and warmth through each bite.

Soups deserve special mention here. The Bistro Soup of the Day changes with the seasons, always showcasing fresh, locally inspired ingredients. The classic French Onion Soup is elevated with blue cheese croutons and a tomato basil pearl pasta relish, bringing a decadent twist to this beloved favorite. For a creamy, vibrant choice, the Butternut Bisque incorporates israeli couscous, tomatoes, and basil finished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil—comfort in a bowl.

To round out the meal, the dessert offerings such as the Chocolate Whiskey Cake and the Olive Oil Cake with Grand Marnier Whipped Cream paired with dried winter fruit relish and maple thyme ice cream provide an indulgent finale that’s both sophisticated and heartwarming. Many patrons, including Michele Zimmerman, have called the crème brûlée among the best ever, highlighting the excellence Oakleys consistently serves on every plate.

Beyond the exquisite cuisine, Oakleys Bistro prides itself on welcoming, attentive service that enhances the overall dining experience. Whether it’s a casual dinner or a special occasion, the staff’s dedication ensures every guest feels valued and cared for, as echoed by guests who have returned time and again.

Oakleys Bistro is more than just a restaurant—it’s a destination for those who cherish innovative American-French dishes served with warmth and artistry. If you seek flavorful, expertly prepared food in a relaxed yet elegant setting, this Indianapolis treasure demands a spot on your dining itinerary.

Interesting dinner. Located about 20 minutes from downtown Indy in a strip center, so somewhat off the beaten path. Large interior, but seems a bit dated. Menu is quite extensive, with lots of interesting choices. The plates lend themselves to sharing, so our party got to taste a fair number of things. The prime rib dumplings, pork belly skewers and halibut stood out for both flavor and culinary execution. One of the distinguishing marks of most dishes is the sheer number of ingredients in each - dollops of this, a drizzle of that, a shaved or crumbled something. There’s a lot going on to be sure, and I’m not necessarily sure that’s always a good thing. Menu prices are fair. Decent wine list (especially the value priced, well aged ‘Features’) but one of the two bottles and the glass of dessert wine we ordered turned out to be out of stock. Restaurant might consider a tablet to handle the selections so they can be kept up to date? Server was friendly and offered good recommendations. Would return…

A new favorite! It seems like they really take pride in their food, and the menu options were really great. The presentation was really valued! We got a recommendation from a friend and are so glad we did. Oakleys bistro will definitely be on our special occasion meal rotation.

This is a late review, as I forgot to do one when we dined here several months ago. Some item menus may have changed as it's a seasonal-ingredient kibda restaurant. Despite the restaurant seating being a little tight, it actually felt cozy after a few minutes of sitting down. Maybe it's also because that reminded me of my trip to Quebec City; where cozy, small-spaced restaurants are plenty. The food is fantastic! It's a place you don't just eat with your mouth, but with your eyes. Artistic, lovely plating, and delectable flavors. Our service was a little slow, but our server was informative and kind. We did dine during a busy time, and we're gracious they got us in pretty quickly. Everything was great, and they even gave us an extra dessert. It's definitely another place added to our list of eats.

We just held our annual company Calico Christmas party at Oakleys Bistro for 21 people. They did a fabulous job. Chris worked with me on the menu planning and special Christmas coctails for our group. She was so gracious. The service was very friendly and accommodating. The dinner was absolutely exceptional, the layers of flavor in every dish were so delicious. Kudos to chef Oakley and his entire staff for our best Christmas dinner!!! In addition to loving fabric at Calico, we are all foodies and we recommend you dont miss the pleasure of dining at Oakley's Bistro.

One of the most amazing meals I've ever had! I wasn't sure what to expect when we drove up, it's quite unassuming from the outside, but that's where it ends. Every dish is flavorful, well seasoned, expertly crafted! The creme brulee was one of my favorites ever! The service was excellent as well. Nate took very good care of us. We will definitely be back!

This is our go to place for each wedding anniversary. This year it was number 56. We’ve been to other places on other anniversaries, but this one is more convenient and always of high-quality. It didn’t get five stars on atmosphere mainly because it is a little bit confined. As is the custom of restaurants everywhere, we were an early dinner appointment so they sat us near the window we’re used to this. But shortly afterwards, as the place filled up other surrounding tables were seated near the window, and I had to change my seat at our table so that I wasn’t constantly bumped by the serving activity to the tables at surrounded me. So I put my back to the window. Other than that, you can’t beat this place for it unique dinner items. Make no mistakes this is not a steak and fish place. This is truly a bistro.
